Portfolio - Web Design
After my first year in college, I began learning website design and building websites as a hobby and commercially. Here are a few of my websites and design demos I've done.
Complete Websites
Ark-La-Tex Gem & Mineral Society Website
This site was made for The Ark-La-Tex Gem & Mineral Society of Bossier City. I've been part of the organization for several years, and now I am their webmaster. This is the fourth design, completed in early 2007. The previous design won first place among rock club websites in the South Central Federation of Mineral Societies.
House Family Dentistry
I made this website for my father's business, House Family Dentistry. The purple and gold color scheme was used because my father is a die-hard LSU fan.
Directional Service
A local directional drilling company, Directional Service, commissioned me to create a business website for them. This was my first commercial website. It recieved a redesign in June 2007.
Perfect Layout
Perfect Layout is a site providing an explanation and a place to download my Perfect Layout functional template. It's a set of CSS styles, Javascript files, and coding practices that solve a lot of tough issues in web design. The goal of the project was to have a base from which any good site could be designed, not graphically, but functionally. Perfect Layout (or its ideas) has been incorporated into all of my complete websites.
Demo Websites
Leonardo da Vinci Personal Website
For my final project in website design class, I was assigned to make a personal website for a long-dead famous artist as if they lived today. I was required to have a gallery, blog, and résumé.
Shiny Pants!
"Shiny Pants!" was made for my independent study in website design. My teacher asked me to look at other websites for inspiration. Because a lot of sites use very shiny headers and such, I made this as a sort of parody. The entire site is about shininess.
ninBeats
For web programming class, I had to make a partially functional "webstore." I chose to sell video game songs in a site that bears a slight (design-wise) resemblance to the iTunes Music Store.
Wiiiiiiiii
For web design class, I had to make a simple promotional site. This one is for the Nintendo Wii. The site features image rollovers and a minimalistic design.
Experiments
Multiple Selection Drop Down Demo
For web programming class, I was required to make a system by which a user could make multiple selections at once in a drop-down menu of some kind that updated a text field with the selected options. An optional requirement was to show, within the dropdown, what had been selected. This was my solution to the problem.
Javascript Animated Rollovers Without GIFs Demo
Using script.aculo.us code and a lot of elbow grease, I built a pretty stable system to allow for animated image rollovers for links that give simple Flash-esque effects without animated GIFs. The only issue is rolling over the links too fast, resulting in the hover effect getting stuck until it is hovered over again.
Transparency Experiment
With CSS, you can set an image to be attached to the top, bottom, right, or left of the browser window. I thought it would be cool to see how much this could be used with the partial transparency of PNGs. I ended up with a site that contains a secret message, that can only be seen by resizing the window. This experiment absolutely WILL NOT work with Internet Explorer 6.
